Early Orthodontics May Mean Less Treatment Later

In order to determine if you or your child requires orthodontic treatment, be sure to consult with your dental provider. Please feel free to browse my website to learn more regarding braces and Invisalign ®. You may also schedule an appointment to undergo a thorough examination and discuss your options. As a Beverly Hills orthodontist, it is my goal to help you achieve you a beautiful, straight smile.

Braces are inevitable for many individuals, whether they needed in their teen years or later on in adulthood. Undergoing an orthodontic treatment is a common step to achieve a beautiful smile. A few decades ago, most patients who underwent treatments were in their teen years; however, Orthodontics for children is becoming increasingly popular as young as seven years old to receive braces. This is due to the fact that their palate and teeth have yet to finish settling into their adult structure. By intervening early, orthodontic treatment can help prevent certain dental flaws.

Young patients are more likely to achieve a straighter smile because the bones and teeth are still malleable enough to guide into a proper growth pattern. In addition, children are less likely to suffer the ridicule that teenagers go through during high school. During their adjustment visits, these young patients also have the option to change the colors of their elastics to match their school colors, seasons, or even their mood. Doing so allows the patient to feel more involved with the treatment and less uncomfortable with the fact that they need to wear braces.

An added benefit of undergoing orthodontic treatment at an early age is that patients may be able to avoid the need for further treatment later in life. However, it is important to note that it is not a guarantee that patients can avoid orthodontic treatment all together if braces are worn early in life. Each patient has a unique dental structure, and as time passes, the growth and movement of the jaw and teeth may indicate the need for further treatment. Individuals who wait to have their dental problems addressed at a later age may require longer treatment; some may opt not to have their teeth straightened because they do not want to wear braces.
